Thanks to financial support from UBS, as part of the “together we support social economy” program, in cooperation with BORIS, in partnership with MCPS, we conducted computer graphics and programming classes for children from the Ursynów District. The workshops aroused great interest. Participants acquired practical knowledge and skills, learned the basics of using the GIMP program – a free application that can be successfully used both for creating school graphics, for the Internet, and for advanced, amateur photo processing.
The second group of classes covered the secrets of programming – young researchers, by participating in the scientific computer game FOLDIT, learned the rules of the game and “worked out” the virus, learning at the same time the appearance and structure of proteins. The game was also of particular importance for science in the prevailing pandemic period, because it took place live, and the methods used by participants to solve individual game rounds served scientific purposes – this knowledge was supposed to bring scientists closer to the development of an effective drug for COVID-19. We hope you have found our classes helpful in achieving this goal.
